We want to thank Rae for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.
Q: What led you to your current career?
A: My mom taught first grade at St. Joseph in Thibodaux since as far back as I could remember. I would always help her set up her classroom, and loved being there with her. I would line up my baby dolls and pass out worksheets and workbooks. Then, I would play school with my cousins. My whole family were teachers. It was what I wanted to do. I always knew I wanted to assist teachers and their students.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I love Asian food. I would say Le Saigon- the taco trio. Also the Honey Glazed Sriracha Chicken and their egg rolls. Really, I love everything there. We also like getting Thai Green Leaf to go.
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Holidays and birthdays were a big deal for me. Those seasons of magic I now know: my Mom was the magic. On Christmas morning, after we had opened all our gifts, my Mom would pull a gift from behind the tree that we hadn't seen. And it would be THE gift we wanted. She would let me decorate my birthday cake however I wanted. I try to recreate those moments for my kids.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: Europe. I would love to go to Italy, where Robert’s family is from. I would love to immerse ourselves in their culture with our kids.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Hope Floats.
Q: What is the first concert you remember attending?
A: My first concert was Britney Spears with my Mom and Aunt Cathy.
Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: My favorite book is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. Her writing is so powerful.
Q: What advice would you give to a group of people?
A: Time is our only real currency. Spend it with intention. Spend it with people who make you feel alive, doing things that grow your character, not just your bank account.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Learn how to paint!
Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: Music from the 1990's is my favorite, but I listen to blues, jazz, country, and some rock. I like most music. I would love to see Cody Johnson or Chris Stapleton perform.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love the culture and vibe of downtown Hammond. The DDD has done a great job with family events. I love shopping and eating there.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Still in education, moving up to Principal. Having three teenage daughters!
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: I can totally forget shows after I watch them. My husband is jealous! I can rewatch a show and it is like I am watching for the first time.
Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: Home is the safe place where you are surrounded by love and can be your most vulnerable self.
Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A chef! They would also do the grocery shopping and clean up after meals.
Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: I'd have to say steak and potatoes. Robert loves to cook, so it is like going to a restaurant when he cooks.
Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Sing loud, listen to audio books, call someone.
Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: I actually gave someone a giftcard to T.J. Maxx and then received a giftcard to T.J. Maxx!
Q: What are you known for?
A: Robert says my tons of lists. People from work would say my excel spreadsheet and Google Docs.
Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: Whatta Man by Salt-N-Pepa. It is my go to karaoke song.
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: To predict the future so I can pack appropriately.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I like prepping for upcoming events like birthday parties. Crafting.
Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The melting and party faces.
Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: Our kids. And the life we have built. I remember praying in a quiet apartment for a husband and kids.
Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: I would bring sunscreen and Off.
Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: I would pay off debt, buy a set of vacation homes and hire help with all daily tasks so I can focus on our family.
Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: That I helped my three kids to love God, each other, and their family. I hope they remember my joy and my presence. I hope that they value their character over their image. They are my greatest lesson in love.
