Meet Khylee Egasti!

Khylee grew up in Tee-Mamou, Iota. She is the oldest of seven (5 girls and 2 boys). She graduated from Elton High School in 2008. She then earned her Bachelor of Science from Millsaps College in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science in 2012.

She spent a year in Guyana, South America teaching math to 7th and 8th graders. She then moved back to Louisiana and became Board Certified as a Behavior Analyst in 2017. She works with The Touchstone Center Applied Behavior Analysis providing school based services to students on the Northshore.

She met her husband, Philip, in December 2014. They were married November 2017, and have Eleanor (4) and Everett (1). They are members of First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula. They also have 2 pet chickens.

We want to thankKhylee for spending some time with us and letting us get to know about her life and her love of the area.

Q: What led you to your current career?
A: I moved back from Guyana and moved in with my sister. I was looking for a job, and she sent me a job posting for a behavior analyst position. I applied, then here we are! I wanted a career, not just a job.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the area, and what do you like to get there?
A: I love the Bourbon Smash drink from Cena. I love the ambience of One Thirteen. We love getting take out from Mami's Mexican in Springfield.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Spending summers with my cousins at my grandfather's house. There were 16 of us. We rode jet skis and 4 wheelers and had a blast.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: To the Maldives with my husband and kids.

Q: What is your favorite movie? What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: Ten Things I Hate About You is my favorite movie. I can recite it and watch it over and over. My first movie in the theater was The Lion King with my Granny and sister.

Q: Do you have a favorite book? What do you love about it?
A: I like historical fiction. The Alice Network by Kate Quinn is one of my favorites. I also like Daisy Jones & The Six and of course, Pride and Prejudice.

Q: What advice would you give to a group of people?
A: Hold on to your kids, protect your family. Look out for each other and help one another.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: I really want to live in the moment. I want each day to strive to raise emotionally intelligent, respectful humans.

Q: What is your favorite music or an artist/band that you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I'd say slow rock. Ray LaMontagne and Erick Baker. 

Q: What current or former business makes you the most nostalgic about the area?
A: Boudin King in Jennings!  

Q: If you could choose one person to go to lunch with, who is it and where would you go?
A: My Paw Paw's Dad, my great grandfather. I'd love to learn about his life.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique that you love about the area?
A: I love downtown Ponchatoula. It is very cute and quaint. I also love being so close to the river.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: Taking care of kids!

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you (even friends or family)?
A: That I am the oldest of 7 siblings or that I lived in Guyana.

Q: What is a word or phrase that comes to mind when you think of the word “Home”?
A: I think of three things, my Paw Paw, "home is where your mom is" and security in our home with our children.

Q: If you could have a full-time staff member that is fully paid for, what would that be? (Chef, housekeeper, driver, coach, personal trainer, etc.)
A: A housekeeper! Someone to do laundry and deep cleaning.

Q: If you had to choose one type of cuisine to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Cajun food, what I grew up on. Food that my grandparents made.

Q: What do you do when you are alone in your car?
A: Do voice to text, listen to audio books, talk on the phone, listen to music.

Q: What is the last gift you gave and received?
A: The last gift I gave was a donation to my sister in law who is running the Boston Marathon. The last gift I received was a Dyson vaccum for my birthday! I also got face masks.

Q: What are you known for?
A: Talking a lot. But I would like to think that I am compassionate, loyal and a good friend.

Q: What is your favorite 90s jam?
A: I have so many! Any songs by N Sync, Britney Spears, Alanis Morissette or Pearl Jam. I also like Zombie by The Cranberries.

Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: Flying fast or teleporting. I want to avoid traffic and go places fast.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Reading, traveling to learn about other cultures, hand stitching, embroidery.

Q: What is your most commonly used emoji?
A: The melting face.

Q: What are you the most proud of?
A: My children.

Q: What two items would you take with you if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island where food and water were taken care of?
A: A sail for shelter and a book for entertainment.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would be the first things you would purchase or spend money on?
A: I would pay off debts for those I love, build a mother-in-law suite and add on to our current home. Maybe a outdoor kitchen. I would also want to buy a vaction home, either in the mountains or on the beach.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
A: I want people to remember me through my kids. That I was a wholesome, kind person.
